Chapter 3:
It was after dark when the last sound of pounding fists finally faded away, Dark and his team huddled together in an apartment, barricading the door with what little furniture was left in the room. The group agreed to wait the night there and to continue onwards towards Nastya's the following morning. Each member eventually passed into an uneasy sleep, Dark in a wooden chair against the wall, Sean slept on a table that was not used in the barricade, while Jill received the single sofa as bedding, and Flagg slept on a large rug on the floor.
The next morning came early for the group, as each member reloaded their weapons, tightened their armor, and began to take the barricade down, piece by piece, eventually walking out into the dim hallway. Dark and Sean both struggled to remove the metal Sean wedged into the door to jam it, it was after Dark banged his head against the wall in frustration, shouting, "Damn it!" That he stopped hearing a banging sound coming from the roof access door at the other end of the hall.Jill put a finger to her lips as she drew her M1911 and took a position in one of the open door ways to fire at whatever was on the other side of that door. Dark, Sean, and Flagg both followed suit.
"Why the hell is an infected on the roof?" Whispered Flagg as he held his Rem 1100 close to his chest, looking to Dark in the door frame across the hall for an answer, Sean was the one to reply with, "I don't think that's an infect...." but was cut off as the door was kicked in, three men, each holding AK 47's, and dressed in matching black trench coats, over poorly black spray painted SA1 mesh, stepped in, their weapons trained on the group.
"Holster your weapons and get on your knees now!" Shouted one of the three men, as they made their way towards the group. Dark gave a sigh, but holstered his Colt Anaconda, and got on his knees, his team was out gunned, and at least this way they had a chance of seeing the end of the day. The other three members of the Dallbow unit followed in suit, as the three men in trench coats came around and held their weapons ready, at Dark, Jill and Sean's heads. Right then the sound of footsteps could be heard as another person entered from the roof access door, this one dressed in a large black leather trench coat as well, but he wore better armor, black, and made of a material Dark had never seen before. He wore military slacks and heavy leather boots, his face obscured by a gas mask that hung around his neck, and black goggles that covered his eyes, slightly hidden behind his shoulder length brown hair. Dark felt a tingle go down his spine, as this man was a BD agent.
The man looked at the Dallbow group, and gave a frown, as he readjusted the M4 sniper rifle on his back. Finally he looked up at one of what Dark now could only assume Fenris Fang soldiers, and asked in a calm voice, "Who are they?" One of the Fenris Fangs replied, "Found them inside the hallway, Mel. Thought they were AD, and that you should have a look." The BD agent, or Mel, as the Fenris solider had called him nodded in thought, walking over to Dark and stopping as he noticed the badge sticking out from under his carheart. Slowly Mel moved one of his fingerless glove covered hands down and read the badge, then looked at the Fenris soldiers before he said, "Let them go, they are not AD."
The Fenris Fang soldiers were shocked, and one even asked in slight annoyance, "Mel? How can you be so su..." But was cut off as Mel quickly grabbed the man by the throat and held him up to the wall, saying, "Last time I checked, AD soldiers didn't wear badges engraved with the term, 'Chief of the DPD,' they are members of the OG Dallbow unit, in other words, harmless, so let them go, clear?" The Fenris solider nodded, and Mel dropped him to the ground, watching as Dark and his team cautiously got back to their feet. Mel offered Dark his hand, and said, "Nathan Glison, Black Dragon agent, sorry for the mix up, Mr. Buchanan." Dark accepted the hand shake and then asked, "What is the BD doing here?" Mel replied with, "Heading back to the outpost, same as you."
Dark nodded and pointed towards the door, before he said, "We will just take our leave now then," And began to walk away as Mel shouted, "Mr. Buchanan, word of advice, stay out of the BD territory border from now on, we are posting sniper nests there, and it would be a shame for you to be hit in another 'mix up.'" Dark looked back and in confusion asked, "Why are you telling me this?" Only to have Mel smile and reply, "Not all BD agents are the cold hearted killers you hear about in the rumors Mr. Buchanan. Some of us don't want to see the innocent hurt." With that Mel made a signal and watched as the Fenris soldiers headed back out the roof access door. Leaving Dark and his team shaken, and even more so, curious, as to what was about to happen.
