Chapter 10:

Dark, Pantz, Jill, Virgil, Scott, Zan, and Captain Awesome, each one teeming with thoughts as to the recent events, and each one sitting around in the barricaded transit center that served as a AD scout post, just south of Dallbow. The sun still had about 6 hours till it would rise, and Dark's team would be safe, tired, broken, and cut off from their friends and families back at Nastya's, but safe none the less. Dark looked around and broke the silence, "I am sorry I got you guys into this, my pride has gotten the best of me, and as a result, I have endangered your lives. When the sun comes up, I will allow any of you to leave me and return back to Neil, as Dallbow unit as of now, is disbanded." Dark looked at the floor now and awaited for his men to say something along the lines of, "good bye," but instead listened as Scott stood up and said, "Dark, Those bastards killed Sean, you lost your temper granted, but they attacked us, and nothing short of the resistance AD is providing will stop them from taking control of the Inner city, and through that, control of the outpost. It will take a lot more than you shouting to shake me away, whatever the future holds, I am in." Jill then stood and said, "As am I, they were my friends too, and we will avenge them." Pantz shook his head and said, "You only get one chance to live, might as well go down fighting, I am in as well." Dark smiled, if anything, the DPD was loyal. Virgil could not help but laugh as he stood and said, "We are all crazy, they will need the combined efforts of Rez, Blaqk and Vora to bring us down, you have my katana Dark, and someone needs to fight for Flagg." Dark nodded and turned towards Zan and said, "Is the Ascending Dawn currently taking applications?"

. . . . . . . . .

Vora X. sat in the dim light of a red light bulb, alone in one of the many rooms of the Black Dragon HQ. Blaqk sat across the table from him, asking in a sort of forced respectful voice, "We lost three of our agents during the Dallbow attack! Why the hell did you not kill them when they were on the ground! Put a god damn bullet in each of their heads, while you had the chance!" Vora gave a chilling laugh as he looked up, his eyes being the most notable thing in the dim red light. He spoke clearly as he said, "If I killed them out right, Neil would surely have all my contacts in the Outpost severed, and us turned into Kill on Sight targets, now that Trex has thrown his lot in with the AD, he has not right to blame us for killing a favoring hypocrite, like Dark. Besides, I see no better hell for Dark to live through then to watch all his friends die around him." The door opened as Rez walked in, Rebellion strapped over his shoulder, and his uniform stained with blood. Rez took his seat next to Blaqk and listened intently as Vora asked, "Have you found the location of their eastern supply and barracks?" Rez nodded, a small smile on his face.Vora then stood and turned his back to them as he said, "Have Abbie, Gregg and SC prepare their units, we attack in three days time."

. . . . . . . . .

Dawn had come, Dark, and the DPD were preparing for the long trek east that would take them to the Ascending Dawn HQ, and there they could finalize their alliance with Jake and Kat. Dark loaded up his weapons with the ammo Captain Awesome passed around, they would be traveling through high infected territory, and it was ether play it safe, or die.Zan approached Virgil, who was strapping his katana to his back, looking at him then asking, "May I see your blade?" Virgil shrugged and handed Zan the weapon, screaming, "What the fuck!" as Zan broke it across his knee and said, "If you are going to use a weapon of such regal history, make sure you at least use a proper version of said weapon. I have a few extra's I know of that are of good quality, you can take one when we arrive at the base. "Virgil clenched his fist and prepared to strike Zan, but stopped as Captain Awesome caught his wrist and said, "Don't argue with him on this one, you cannot win, believe me, I have tried. "Jill could not help but laugh, since Virgil had first joined the group he had prized that piece of metal, and watching him react to its destruction was priceless. "All clear to go?" asked Zan as he stowed the boxes of excess ammo within one of the broken lighting fixtures for the next Ad group to use the scout post to find. Everyone was ready, so they closed and barricaded the door behind them, and started the journey east.

A surprisingly small amount of infected were encountered along the journey, apparently the last horde to attack the OA was taking longer to replenish after its defeat. It was by noon the 2nd day of travel that they finally arrived at the Ascending Dawn's HQ, a building that at one point served as an upper class condo building, the first floor was nigh impenetrable by most undead, and was a marvel to behold. Zan and Captain Awesome received warm welcomes from the AD soldiers as they lead the DPD through the building to the top story, there in the penthouse, Jake and Katejina were waiting.

The room was apparently a meeting room of kinds, a large table surrounded by chairs was the main center of the room, a large map of Fairview covered the wall and several papers were piled about on various pieces of furniture. Dark, and his group took their seat, and watched Kat turned around, and looked at them for a short period, finally saying, "I am sorry as to what has happened to your base." Jake and Kat then sat down and began to talk about the DPD joining their army, the DPD acting as its own strike team to aid the AD forces in any way it could. Dark taking the time as the official work was done to say, "However, if we deem at any time that it is not worth the cost to fight for you, we will leave, no questions asked. Clear?" Jake agreed to the terms, stopping them as they began to leave to say, "Thank you for your help." Scott turning his head back to say, "You will need a lot more if you are going to stand a chance."

It was later in the day, the DPD forces had dispersed throughout the base to do their own things, Dark and Scott each taking a round of watch, sitting in the lobby of the building, alone, the entire first floor void of all AD activity to create an airlock from the infected outside. A six pack that Dark had convinced Jake into giving him lay about on the floor, only one beer left. It was awkward for Dark, Scott normally did his drinking with Sean, but now that he had passed, Dark felt it was his duty to fill the position. "How are you taking his death?" Dark asked, not meaning to pry into a recent wound. Scott shrugged and said, "I wish that bastard had followed Vora's orders, maybe then he would be alive and with us today, but he was a good friend, and one should show appreciation for a man while he is alive, not while he is dead." Dark nodded he then sighed as he took off the beaten brass badge he had, and tossed it to Scott saying, "You're going to be far from the close action, so please, if I don’t make it, give that to Crynsos, he will need it to appoint the next 'Chief of the DPD' wouldn’t want to let him down would we." Scott laughed as he stuffed the badge into his pocket, stopping as the small radio the AD had set up in the guard room blared, "This is Thomas! I have news from the BD border! They have a gigantic army stationed there! They are preparing to strike the eastern Supply and barracks tomorrow!"
