Chapter 13:

With a thundering sound that came through the air around them, mortars began to rain down upon the AD troops, killing nearly over 100 of them in the first wave of the explosives, and breaking the car barricades that the AD used to block the northern, eastern and western roads that lead into their eastern base into piles of rubble, shrapnel, and the bodies of AD soldiers alike, both dead and dying. It was seeing this opportunity that gave the Black Dragons the final push to advance.

"Dark!" shouted Jill as she watched Dark's body slowly disappear among the massive horde of Fenris Fang soldiers now marching closer and closer. Jill was determined to fight each one of them off and to claim the body of her friend and commander, but stopped as she was grabbed on the shoulder and heard Jake's voice shout, "God damn it Jill! He is dead, and we will be to if we don't get the fuck out of here!" Jake then grabbed his radio from his waste and spoke into, "All Ascending Dawn commanders! Retreat to the cutoff point, I repeat retreat to the cutoff point!" Jake put the radio back on his belt and said, "Let's go, no point in killing more men now." Jill nodded, as they got up and fled.

Zan and Blaqk stood in the center of battle along the western road, each one having massive gashes and cuts from their bladed duel. Blaqk watched with a smile and gave another wicked laugh as he watched the mortars rain down upon the AD base and barricades, saying, "Looks like you just lost the game Zan." Zan did not turn away from his target, but stood there, eyes glaring, both his katana pointed at his enemy, listening as Jake's voice came across the radio shouting, "All Ascending Dawn commanders! Retreat to the cutoff point, I repeat retreat to the cutoff point!" This gave Blaqk another reason to laugh as he said, "Go ahead, try it! Run away!" Zan smiled, although he knew that he had many cuts and injuries on his leg from the battle he could still probably escape, despite it being cowardly, Jake needed him for his cause, and that was enough reason. Zan sheathed his blades and turned, walking away slowly. He listened to Blaqk's heavy footsteps as the BD officer charged the unarmed Zan, only to stop as Zan jumped, turned in the air at the spot and delivered a round house kick to the side of Blaqk's head. Blaqk looked up in a slight daze to the head, and watched as Zan jumped and climbed up fire escape of a nearby building, "You will be mine one of these days Zan, count your drama queen ass on it!" Blaqk got to his feet and walked back towards his troops, each one standing ready for his orders. "Charge." he said with a low voice, and walked off in the opposite direction.

Virgil was surprised by the mortar fire, but was even more surprised to see a large wave of FF troops coming down on top of him. Virgil opened fire with his M1911, but after he emptied the magazine he holstered the pistol again, "Screw it...." he said as he jumped back and began to run towards the base, bullets flying through the air as FF troopers began to mow down any AD troops still alive and stupid enough to stay and face them, one of the bullets pierced the side of his calf, Virgil grunted in pain, but kept moving, if he stopped running he would die. Virgil jumped over a crater made by the mortar fire , and pulled a frag grenade out from his coat, pulling the pin and throwing it into the horde of FF troops, and watching as it went off, creating a large hole in the ranks of the horde. Virgil was at least given that satisfaction before he entered the courtyard of the AD base and began to enter the crowd of AD soldiers trying to hold off the BD invasion as long as possible so that others might escape.

Katejina felt a tear run down her face as she watched in horror as the mortar fire came down and decimated her troops, decimated her friends. Hr and Pantz stood their ground as long as they could, but their moral was broken, and they knew that inevitable they would have to follow Jake's orders and retreat. Pantz gave her a little nod as she fired the last shell from her Mossberg 500, and he fired the last round from his many Lugers. They then turned and fled, fighting their way past the few FF who managed to already get past them, and heading towards the crater covered base they had failed to defend. As they were running, Kat noticed Captain Awesome limping along, and quickly made a gesture to Pantz for them to help the injured AD commander. Pantz nodded, and turned, slashing out the throat of a FF trooper on his tail with his trench knife, together they ran to Captain Awesome's side and helped him run away. "Do you have any idea how long I have been waiting?" Said Captain Awesome, his voice thick with sarcasm.

By the time the mortars had rained down upon the streets of Fairview, Scott and Rez were deep in their sniper duel, each one playing a game of shoot at your opponent, then hide and try to get another shot off. Scott jumped out from cover and rolled to dodge Rez's incoming bullet, took aim and fired himself, hitting the marksmen in the shoulder. Rez quickly ducked behind cover and to regain his concentration. Although he was injured, he was going to see this battle through to the end, and hoped out from cover taking aim, but lowering the scope from his eye with a smile. Standing far off was Scott giving him the finger before running away to join the retreating AD forces. Rez slung Rebellion over his shoulder and began to walk away. It was not every day that such prey was found in Fairview, and he wanted this battle between him and Scott to go on for just a little longer, at least long enough for them to finish the duel in the right way.

AD forces held off the invading FF troops from actually entering the courtyard as long as they could, but the few who stayed so that others might escape, soon were shot and killed. With a mighty war cry the FF chased the fleeing AD army to the southern entrance of the intersection the base was built on, Jake and his few remaining troops standing 50 feet out side. "Initiate!" Jake said into his radio and watched as a rain of grenades from the nearby roofs were shot down at the FF pouring down the southern street after the AD, they were decimated, and the initial stall that Jake's trap produced gave the AD enough time to flee from what was no longer, their base. Jake then nodded to the troops surrounding him, as they turned and began to march off, not daring to look back at the Black Dragons who taunted them so in victory. The battle was over. The Black Dragons had won.

. . . . . . . .

Vora sat on the roof of his new base and smiled as the sun set in the distance, a glass of fine wine in his hand that he personally took from the base commander’s stash. Black bandages stained with blood covered the bullet wounds Dark had made in his last stand. Nearby sat Blaqk, a whole bottle of Vodka in his clutches as he watched the FF troopers below rebuild the car and debris barricades they had destroyed in the battle, giving a nervous laugh every now and then as he bandaged a new wound he discovered Zan had given him. Rez also sat nearby, silent as ever, sipping a cup of tea and looking down the southern street in longing, something was left unfinished and Vora knew that Rez would take care of it after business here was done. A knock was heard at the roof door as Mel came up and stated his report to his Arch Lord. "All teams have finished repairs to the barricades, and all remaining AD troops have been cleared with in a three mile radius." Vora nodded with approval as he asked, "And the bodies?" Mel responded in kind, "All bodies have been picked up and burnt, save for Mr. Buchanan's, his has been removed as you have asked." Vora nodded again and said, "You are dismissed, please have Mr. Buchanan's body buried in the Nastya cemetery when we return." He waited for Mel to leave and then returned to the sunset listening as Blaqk asked, "Why are you showing Trex so much kindness, he is your enemy." Vora gave a chuckle as he responded, "Even I am not without honor. Dark, as they called him, put up a decent enough fight, and he deserves as much as a proper burial." Vora finished his wine as he then said, "Notify the troops we move towards their HQ in the morning."

. . . . . . . .

Jake sat in the penthouse room at the top of the Ascending Dawn HQ, Zan, Kat, Captain Awesome and all the DPD with him, as Kat went back and forth from person to person treating wounds. "What I want to know is how they got fucking mortars!" said Awesome as he wrapped a bandage around his cleaned leg wound. Kat responded as she dressed Zan's many gashes with Antiseptic spray and bandages, "The Fairview armory is currently in BD territory, I am surprised they didn't bring in a tank." Jake looked outside the window as Kat and Captain Awesome continued their conversation, 2/5 of his men had died in that battle, and another 1/5 was sent to ambush points along the roads to kill any BD troops trying to attack their HQ. It was then that he turned to Scott and asked, "So you are really leaving?" Scott nodded, Dark's badge in his hand as he said, "Neil will want us to report in now that Trex is gone...." Jake nodded and said, "We have supplies waiting for you, you can leave in the morning." Scott nodded and said, "Thank you, Dark admired you Jake, I can see why now." Scott then stood up and said, "Let us rest and be off early, Jarki will want to know that there is one less sandwich to make from now on." The DPD stood with him, and left the room.
