Chapter 14:

Sam, Ryan, Jarki and Commander Crynsos each sat around a roof top in the inner city, each one enjoying a lunch of sandwiches and assorted carbonated drinks Jarki had taken from one of the many shelves in the food storage building. Three days ago Sam had lost communication with the Dallbow base, thus Neil sent them in to find them and replace any damaged radio parts they may have. Sam looked around him from the roof top. Behind him Jarki and Ryan had gotten into another one of their arguments. Sam heard Cryn's voice behind him as he began to turn back to the group, saying, "You know chances are nothing is actually wrong, the radio equipment at the DPD base is ancient, plus you have Pantz running around their, with a beer in his hand most likely...." Sam gave a smile and shrugged as he said, "I know. Dark will probably give me a great excuse when we get out there."

Sam now stood in disbelief as he stood outside the charred, shelled out Dallbow Police Department building, Ryan standing next to him saying,"Looks like Dark threw a party. "Crynsos and Jarki both came out of the building, Jarki shaking her head as she said, "No one is in there, and all equipment and supplies was ether taken or destroyed." "One hell of a party!" Ryan said in response. Sam then looked around and noticed the many bullet holes in the building side and the buildings around the DPD building, and said, "It looks like they were attacked, but by who and why?" No one answered and so Sam then said, "What do we do now?" "I guess we just go home," said Jarki, as she looked down the street, then saying, "Wait.... who is that?" Sam looked down the street as well. Walking along was Scott, Virgil, Jill and Pantz, both Sean and Dark nowhere to be seen. The group of Outpost Guards ran towards the DPD stopping before them as they saw the look of despair on their faces.

"Scott.... Where is Dark?" asked Sam as he looked around, those were the only four around,Scott looked at Sam and said after a long pause, "Sam, can we get to a safer place first, infected levels have risen today, and...." Sam nodded, they helped the group along to the roof top they had eaten their lunch at earlier, their Scott, Jill, Virgil and Pantz explained the whole thing. Of the AD supply crate, and the BD attack. Of the Battle of the Eastern base, and of Dark and Sean's deaths. Each member of the OG reacted in a different way, Ryan, was silent, he couldn't say anything, Jarki looked down at the roof top in sadness, Crynsos got angry and banged his hand against the roof railing, shouting, "Damn!" while Sam just looked at Scott, who handed him Dark's beaten bronze badge and stood up, saying, "Let's get back, Neil will want to hear about this."

The group had made it back to Nastya's by mid afternoon that day, Cryn and Ryan having to break from the group to deal with a civilian riot, which seemed to happening more and more frequently these days, all caused by the same thing, Carnal Sin and their monopoly on the Outpost supply market. Sam noted the extra OG security Carnal Sin had around their shop that day, apparently afraid of another attack of angered independent merchants. Sam and the DPD finally arrived at their inner outpost barracks and sat around, before Sam said, "I have to go on CB duty..... I will talk to Mr. Yates after my shift. You guys might also want to ask Crynsos for a round or two of guard duty, might allow you to distract yourself from the sadness." Sam began to turn as he heard Jill ask, "What is the point. We will all feel sad today, why not just let yourself feel sad." Sam nodded and headed into the CB room, picking up the headset. He already had a caller, thus he flipped the switch and said, "Ahoy, and welcome to the CB radio....."

Sam sat alone outside Neil's room as he waited for his turn talking to the mysterious leader of Nastya's. As always the ever present sound of a blender could be heard in the background, but stopped as Neil opened the door and brought Sam in. "What have you got for me?" he asked Sam. Sam relayed the whole story to Neil, just as Scott described it, finishing with, "What do we do now?" Neil did not give it much thought as he said, "Nothing." Sam was shocked, "Nothing?" Neil nodded and watched as an angry Sam jumped to his feet and shouted, "What do you mean nothing! Trex was one of the best OG officers you have ever had, and when Vora X. just up and decides to kill him, you are just going to sit there and let it happen! Christ! I can imagine why you would not expel the monopoly Carnal Sin has on the supply market, it is too valuable to your cause, but when a outside group attacks your army, I would expect you to have the balls to retaliate! Oh wait I forgot.... You balls BLEND!"

Neil stood up and held his Dusk Enforcer to Sam head as he said in a low angry voice, "My balls do not blend." Neil then put the weapon back into his holster as he said, "When Trex decided to side with the Ascending Dawn he took matters into his own hand, and when those actions get him killed, you expect me to blame others for it? The Black Dragons are a valuable group to have around come OA, and I am not going to risk the lives of more of my men by invading the BD territory!" Sam shook his head in disbelief as he headed towards the door saying, "When the BD can start killing of your officers, how long do you think it is before the BD decides to kill you?" Sam then left the room.

Out front of Neil's HQ Sam stood with his friends, the Dallbow Unit was officially disbanded today, and the surviving members were absorbed into different branches of the OG. Each member stood before him, their once proud individual uniforms from the inner city now replaced with the generic gray of the OG solider. Jill had been absorbed into Commander Crynsos's private unit, a purple star on her right shoulder signifying her rank. Virgil and Pantz had both been taken into Ryan's group, where they would most likely end up working guard shifts at the main gate. Scott however was the only one Neil deemed credible to promote, and thus had a blue star on his right shoulder, signifying he was commander of the Snipers Corps. of the OG. Off in the distance the Carnal Sin building seemed to have finally fallen to the riots of independent merchants, as it was now ablaze, a torch of monopoly sent ablaze by the anger of the common man.

It was then that Mel approached the group and despite them aiming their weapons at him, he said, "We have returned Dark's body for you. I think it is best if you go and bury him now." The group still had their weapons aimed at Mel as Virgil asked, "Why did you bring him back? Why not mutilate his body as a final act of contempt?" Mel sighed as he turned and walked away calling back, "Not all of us are the monsters you here about in the rumors. That includes Vora X."

Jill, Sam, Scott, Virgil, and Pantz all gathered around Dark's grave. They did not have the wood resources available to build a coffin thus they dressed Dark in his OG officers uniform, a red star on the right shoulder, many people showed up for the funeral, most of them were friends Dark had made in the OG, but a few ere those he had made in the BD and AD, Mel, Gregg Stevens, Captain Awesome, and Zan all among the spectators. As the final words were said Sam lowered himself into the hole and placed Dark's beaten bronze badge on his lapel, before filling the grave. Dark's grave marker was a white cross, just like the others in the cemetery, only this one was given a small bronze star embedded in the center of it.
